When planning your voyage, you should check whether the vessel can be routed via the Suez Canal and investigate what rebate may be available. To do so, contact Redmar, who will coordinate with the Suez Canal authority to determine the best possible rebate.
If a rebate is granted, you will need a certificate from your port of origin. Redmar will coordinate with other ports’ agents to obtain the documentation needed for your vessel.
Upon entering the Suez Canal, the vessel must pay the full Canal toll. To facilitate the transit, Redmar will coordinate with the master and the Suez Canal authority.
You will also need a certificate from the port of destination. Redmar will coordinate with your port’s agent to collect all the required documentation.
Each step of the voyage will require an additional certificate. Redmar will coordinate the gathering of all the documentation required with all agents assigned to the voyage. Once all certificates are collected, Redmar will hand them over to the Suez Canal Authority for verification.
The rebate is released once all certificates have been accepted by the Suez Canal Authority.
A rebate system is offered by the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) to encourage ships to use the Suez Canal instead of alternative routes. A deep understanding of the Suez Canal rebate system is required to secure significant reductions in your vessel’s toll fee (up to 75%).
The rebates scheme of the Suez Canal Authority is constantly updated and requires a thorough assessment by our specialized team in Egypt. We will assist you in completing all the necessary documentation in a timely manner.
Suez Canal rebate principle:
The rebate is granted when an application for the voyage is submitted to the SCA between the vessel's last load port and its first discharge port.
- The application compares voyage calculations for the Suez Canal transit versus alternative longer routes.
- The SCA has also introduced several fixed rebates (fixed percentage rebates off Canal tolls) for crude oil carriers, LNG tankers, LPG tankers, container ships, vehicle carriers and dry bulk vessels.
What happens after a Suez Canal rebate is granted:
Once a rebate is granted, a strict set of certificates must be submitted to the SCA rebate department. Canal tolls are paid in full upon transit. The rebate is released once the certificates are submitted, if they respect the deadline and meet the requirements.
